There are little hints of a soft spring coming everywhere! Little green buds all around, tiny pink and white blossoms thrown out here and there, timidly opening up their soft, luscious petals---to turn out their cheerful, bright faces to the beckoning sun that slowly warms and thaws the cold earth, and spreads a blanket of gold warmth over the singing birds. The breeze is lighter, more tender and gentle, and whispering messages of hope and joy abounding. The grass is growing a rich green, the crocuses are pushing up through the damp soil, the daffodils and tulips are sending up tall, slender stalks, and people, like me, are wearing flip flops and shorts and t-shirts, and are running in the yard barefoot over the squishy, deeply colored berries that have fallen to the ground. All the bare trees on the hill are gaining more color as they blush pink to the very tips, for they look pink from their tiny, dark buds, and the bright, excited summer birds are arriving everyday! The temperatures rise, people get a flush in their cheeks, a sparkle in their eyes, and a spring in their steps, birds twitter and tweet, squirrels dash madly about for food, Hummingbirds sing heartily, and the horses in the pastures enjoy delicious, fertile grass. The springs and brooks laugh and gurgle as they flow so gracefully over their stones, the tiny Bushtits peck at their reflections in my window, and the clouds become light and airy, and sail through the unspeakable, unattainable, never-ending, rich blue sky. The Western Scrub-Jays snatch up free food from the streets, to feed their young, and great, sky-filling flocks of Robins and Starlings move on to other regions.
Spring is in the air, everywhere!
Soft hints touching here and there, glimmers of hope spreading through the once darkened city and wood.
No longer snow blankets and falls, but sun!
No longer snow blankets the quiet earth and falls gently,
But sun shines down,
Melting heart and soul and world,
And bring warmth and light and life.
Filled with wonder and awe and delight
Bringing forth joy and life and might.
